How to behave on a day off from work...

As I mentioned before, I took off from work yesterday and today.  For lunch yesterday, we went to a local bar and had beer and sandwiches (they have a lunchtime special).

Port City Pilsner at The Jeffrey
We also had some delicious pretzels.

Today, I woke up to this guy nestled between my feet.

His brother was pretty lazy on our bed all day.

I took advantage of a sushi lunch special: three rolls with soup and salad for a total of $13...

Spicy tuna, salmon avocado, and shrimp tempura rolls with miso and salad.
And drank wine with an Us Weekly in front of the ID channel in my pj's.

My current view as I watch Dateline is this little tabby:

The end to a perfectly lazy day off if you ask me.

Birthday Day/Day Off

Yesterday was my birthday, and to celebrate my husband and I ate Lou Malnati's deep dish pizza that my mom sent us and a piece of Magnolia cake.

I took off today and tomorrow for my birthday and the Easter weekend.  I slept in and then had a very French breakfast of croissant and cafĂ© au lait.

Oh happy day (off)!

Week in Review

This past week, I bought several pairs of shoes including these cat lady ones:

I also bought new sneakers - New Balance WR1400 Running Shoes - to get me motivated to work out.

My tabby kept doing ridiculous poses like this:

And even fell asleep like a human being with a pillow and blanket:

My husband's birthday is today, and to celebrate we got brunch that included champagne and this delicious piece of tiramisu:

I hope everyone has a beautiful Saturday!

Friday Night Lenten Dinner

Growing up Catholic, McDonald's filet-o-fish was a Lenten staple.  I still try not to eat meat on Fridays in Lent, and on a gloomy night like tonight it was an easy and nostalgic dinner.

McDonald's dinner - the chocolate milkshake hit the spot and even had a cherry on top.
Filet-o-Fish and Small French Fries
Once or twice a year, this is the best meal ever.
I really like Lent.  Most years I struggle to give something up; swearing has never succeeded.  One year, I successfully gave up looking at and that worked well.  I still rarely look at gossip blogs.  Ever since Gawker posted this horrible "tongue-in-cheek" blog post about a poor dolphin who died in the Gowanus Canal, I have boycotted Gawker.  I don't have time for people who are borderline sociopathic, insensitive toward animals, and not funny.

This year, I gave up giving up not going to church.  I've gone to church (not always Catholic) for the past four Sundays.  It's a good meditation, and not as difficult now that the pope isn't a complete idiot.  The Catholic church seems to be getting a bit more open-minded, but still has a long way to go (women priests, acceptance of gay marriage, married priests, birth control, pre-marital sex, etc.).

Sorry to go on a Catholic rant.  Bottom line: I like Lent.
