Shrimp Pasta and William-Sonoma 5-Piece Pomegranate Pasta Set

Tonight's dinner was lemon-parsley shrimp pasta that I made following this recipe on Chow.   We finally used the beautiful 5-piece pasta set we got for our wedding.  The bowls have a pomegranate pattern and are made in Portugal.  I love the warm colors, and the size of the serving bowl and pasta bowls is just right.  Super homey and great for a a cozy meal with family.  We paired our pasta with the Francis Coppola Sofia Rosé - a rosé named after Coppola's daughter Sofia Coppola.  It comes in a lovely bottle and is delicious.

I love these pasta bowls; if you're intersted in getting some visit William-Sonoma here.

The Nuaa Thai Restaurant

We tried a new Thai restaurant tonight in our neighborhood called The Nuaa.  The service was great, and the whole meal was only $50.  Perfect date night!

Sonic Yoga Groupon for Month of Yoga

I went on a yoga voucher buying spree.  The first one that I bought was a $30 Groupon for a month of yoga at Sonic Yoga on the west side.  I started going last week and really like it.  I've done a restorative class and another one for centering so far.

Photo of one of the studios in Sonic Yoga - cute old school ceilings
After class tonight, I went to the nearby Food Emporium.  I think it had a better selection than other Food Emporiums - possibly because there are so many tourists in the area and they want to make a good impression.

I went a little overboard
So happy that donettes are back!!

Packing Homemade Sushi Bento Box for Lunch

I've been trying to cook more interesting things and pack lunch for work.  There are plenty of Japanese stores in New York City; so I decided to try making homemade sushi rolls.  I'm mildly obsessed with bento boxes; so I decided to pack a bento box of sushi for my work lunch.  Yesterday, I went to Dainobu on 56th and picked up a sushi mat for rolling, some seaweed, and a cute bento box.  I almost bought a Hello Kitty bento, but then realized that I'm 28 and getting too old for that shit.  I also went to Katagiri, which I've already mentioned in a previous post, and picked up sashimi salmon, short grain rice, Japanese cucumber, and sesame seeds.  The other ingredients - including rice vinegar - were already in the apartment, because we're hip and cool.  If you want a taste of Japanese culture and to learn some cool recipes, you should check out this youtube channel (I kind of love it): http://www.youtube.com/user/cookingwithdog

Not pretty enough to pack, but was delicious anyway.  My husband ate the really unglamorous rolls.
My lunch ready to go in the fridge for tomorrow.

Another Fire Island Weekend

Penn Station has one of the only Krispy Kreme Donut shops in the area.  Krispy Kreme is  the silver linings to this hellacious place.

Iced Coffee & donut on train to Bayshore Ferry
Original Glazed Krispy Kreme - Manhattan style
Beautiful Sunset leaving Fire Island
As an aside: can we please talk about the fact that the antibiotic (doxycycline)  that I'm taking looks a lot like Carrie Mathison's magic pills in Homeland?

bareMinerals® Get Started Kit

I am terrible about replacing my makeup as frequently as I should and wanted some makeup that was better for my skin; so I bought the bareMinerals® Get Started Kit from Sephora.  I'm very excited about using it!

Comes in a carrying case.

Here's what's inside: brushes, moisturizer, makeup.
Sephora always gives you a bunch of fun samples with your purchases.

I really like this Laura Mercier smooth finish foundation powder in "buff."
