DC Weekend Vacay Pt. 3 - The Arts

The first day in D.C., we went to Georgetown (which is adorable) and made a pilgrimage to Dumbarton Oaks.  The house was really cool, but the gardens (designed by  Beatrix Farrand) were amazing.

The Orangery
The Swimming Pool
Fountain in the Ellipse
I cannot recommend visiting enough.

The Freer's Gallery's Peacock Room by Whistler was amazing!
The exhibition Kiyochika: Master of the Night was great
The only bummer was that copies of his prints are not available for purchase because of donor issues.  I really wanted a copy of this print "Sight at Ochanomizu" (1880).  His work is so beautiful.
How cute is the teapot that was for sale in the gift shop though?
D.C. is a great city, and we had a great time.

DC Weekend Vacay Pt. 2 - FOOD

We did some good eating in D.C.

We had lunch at District Taco, which was a lot like Chipotle, but with Boylan soda.
I had a burrito with chips and queso and my husband had a salad.
Paul is a French chain that is all over D.C. - the one we went to was incredibly ineffecient and had a huge line.
Bakery wares
Ovens full of baking bread

We had lunch at Founding Farmers, which was amazing.  It was so delicious.

Roasted Tomato Soup

Passion Fruit Phosphate
Chicken and waffles
Crab cakes with risotto
Wonderful brunch in a great city with a great man.

DC Weekend Vacay Pt. 1

Last weekend, me and my love snuck off to D.C. for a weekend.  Neither of us had ever been before, and it was nice to see some important landmarks and explore.  We stayed at the W Hotel right near The White House.
Ultra contemporary decor, including some strange red back light bed frame.
Rococo-ish frame
They tried to stage the room; so that there was food, etc. in places you would reach for it.  I woke up to notice a $57 bottle of red wine - a little early for me, but no judgments.
The hotel was convenient, modern, and had a comfy bed and Bliss bath products.  All good in my book.
The White House was super cute - we just walked by a few times.  It is remarkably white/they must repaint it all the time.
The Mall
Lincoln Memorial
Newly re-opened Washington Monument

Sprinkles ATM

Today was a "whatever, I eat what I want" kind of a day, and I have been craving a vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting for weeks now.  So after weeks of passing the Sprinkles Cupcake ATM and resisting, tonight I took the plunge.

Nail Polish Credit: Essie Hot Coco
Cupcake and espresso
The cupcake was still pristine and fresh after its journey through the atm
As my girl Simone de Beauvoir would say, "Je ne regrette rien."

Cinco (or rather seis and séptimo) de Mayo

Tacos did not happen on cinco de mayo this... I'm a thematic food failure.  They did however happen on the Sixth of May.
Last night's Mexican feast:hard and soft shell chicken taco with guacamole and chips
Tonight's leftovers - two soft shell chicken tacos and a glass of Côtes du Rhône

Checking In on May Day

April is done, and I wanted to give you some snippets from my second half of the month.  I saw this adorable house on a walk the other day:

This little house in the East 70s is covered in squirrels - note the squirrel border
Two squirrels sit on either side of the door eating nuts
We ate at Panera the other day before going to the Museum of the Moving Image in LIC, and I loved it.  Could possibly eat this meal everyday:

French Onion Bread Bowl and Chicken Caesar Salad
I recently had a cozy night at home with sushi, wine, my cats, and the OWN channel:

Alaskan and Shrimp Tempura Rolls
My husband took me out to Shake Shack last night, where we had 'Shroom Burgers:

The 'Shroom Burger was good/had a ton of cheese, which made it better.
HAPPY MAY DAY!!!!
